SEO Tip: Google Extended Sitelinks Tips for Webmasters

Extended Sitelinks

Last month, Google announced extended sitelinks. The maximum number of sitelinks of websites increased from eight (8) to twelve (12). Extended Sitelinks are new additions to the search results pages of Google. Sites of well known brands and companies like Facebook are those which are receiving the extended Sitelinks.

In general, Google shows sitelinks if it is sure that a website is the exact match for a search query but these sitelinks don't usually appear for two or more keyword searches.  Product name or company name searches are usually given more value by Google's Sitelinks algorithm.

Google generates the sitelinks for your website based on the following:
  • website navigational structure
  • page names
  • page titles and Meta descriptions
  • click stream data of the most popular website pages
  • anchor text of the internal and external links that point to your website.

Google uses these important signals in determining the sitelinks to be generated.

If Google decides to display sitelinks for your website, your site's content will be more prominent than before and the major pages and their respective descriptions will be visible in Google's Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs) .

Google Toolbar Not Available for Firefox 5

Heads up for Mozilla Firefox users!

The Google Toolbar will not be available for Firefox 5 or newer versions.  The article about this update is published at http://www.google.com/support/toolbar/bin/answer.py?answer=1342452&topic=15356)

The Google Toolbar

The Google Toolbar offers helpful search suggestions as you type in the search box. While most suggestions come from popular Google searches, you'll also see suggestions from your Google bookmarks and your search history. Toolbar even lets you know if you've incorrectly spelled a word, and suggests the correct spelling.

For SEO, the Google Toolbar has the PageRank (PR) button to display a web page's PR value.   This button displays the importance of the web page you're viewing.  According to Google, web pages with a higher PageRank are more likely to appear at the top of Google search results.

Search Engine Optimization Services

Search Engine Optimization

SEO is an acronym for "search engine optimization" or "search engine optimizer." SEO is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results.

Deciding to hire an SEO professional is a big decision that can potentially improve your site and save time, but you can also risk damage to your website and online reputation. Make sure to research the potential advantages as well as the damage that an irresponsible SEO firm or freelancer can do to your site.

Many SEO companies and consultants provide useful services for website owners, including:

* Review of your website content, navigational elements, and linking structure
* Technical advice on website development: for example, web hosting, page redirects, error pages, use of CSS and JavaScript
* Content development
* Management of online business development campaigns
* Keyword research and keyword competitor analysis
* SEO training
* Expertise in niche markets and geographies.

Keep in mind that the Google search results page includes organic search results and often paid advertisement (denoted by the heading "Sponsored Links") as well.

If you're thinking about hiring an SEO Expert / SEO Consultant, the earlier the better. A great time to hire is when you're considering a site redesign, or planning to launch a new site. That way, you and your SEO can ensure that your site is designed to be search engine-friendly from the bottom up. However, a good SEO can also help improve an existing site. Outrank your competitors now thru 1st page rankings of your target keywords and get more sales and conversions by hiring an SEO Expert.

Google and the other major search engines change their keyword ranking algorithms from time to time. What you think will work for your website's SEO may not work tomorrow or the next month. With Google's Panda updates, a lot of websites were penalized and disappeared from Google's top search result pages. Because of low quality and duplicate content detected on these websites, these sites were penalized and their keyword rankings dropped.

You will need a Google SEO Expert that studies these algorithm changes and adapt these changes to succeeding SEO campaigns in order to comply with the Google Panda site quality requirements.
